A swift intervention by Toroslar EDAŞ for the record-breaking electricity consumption

• The record-breaking electricity requirement due to the intense use of A/C in Mersin because of the increasing temperatures was supplied thanks to the endeavoring efforts of Toroslar EDAŞ teams under challenging conditions in rural and urban areas.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Toroslar EDAŞ) continues its operations 24/7 in order to meet the record-breaking electricity demands, which have recently increased tremendously due to the increasing temperatures and use of A/C.

Maintaining its leading position as the company that has carried out the highest amount of investment among the 21 distribution companies in Turkey, Toroslar EDAŞ put all its efforts to supply uninterrupted energy in Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Mersin and Osmaniye during the high air temperatures experienced between July 24 and July 26.

Meeting the ever-increasing energy demand in the 6 provinces that company serves thanks to its investments, Toroslar EDAŞ fulfilled the electricity demand, which increased by 27 percent, far surpassing the record-breaking demand fulfilled last year.

• Over 50 percent increase in electricity demand on a provincial basis

Analyzing the increase in demand for the region that Toroslar EDAŞ serves, year-on-year increases of 34 percent, 40 percent, 46 percent, and 51 percent were observed in Adana, Mersin, Osmaniye and Kilis, respectively, on Monday, July 24.

The overall consumption in 6 provinces increased by 27.3% from 2,601 megawatts to 3,312 megawatts on the very same day.

Particularly in some neighborhoods in Mersin and Adana, Toroslar EDAŞ commissioned large-capacity transformers transferred to these areas by trucks and cranes to eliminate any interruptions due to the consumptions that are far above the existing capacity.

• Endeavoring efforts under challenging conditions

Toroslar EDAŞ teams were challenged by the increasing air temperatures but worked extremely hard to supply uninterrupted energy to the area, where the consumptions increased tremendously due to high air temperatures and even staying under the shades became difficult.

Continuing their operations without compromising on Occupational Health and Safety measures, the teams climbed the poles made of iron which got hot with the effect of open air and the sun, replaced the damaged conductors, as well as the panels, and repaired the damaged transformer centers.

Furthermore, Toroslar EDAŞ has been sustaining its efforts to re-build the electricity grid in coordination with the ongoing debris removal works in Hatay, to supply uninterrupted energy to tent and container cities in the region and to avoid any inconvenience to the people who already suffered from the earthquake.
