Snow efforts continue at Toroslar EDAŞ

  • Toroslar EDAŞ continues to put all its efforts to provide high-quality and uninterrupted energy in the rural areas of Mersin and Adana together with 316 vehicles and 1349 site personnel.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Toroslar EDAŞ) continues to respond to any breakdowns in the electricity distribution grid caused by ice load and tree falling due to the recent heavy snowfall and storms in Mersin and Adana.

Toroslar EDAŞ teams, who are on duty 24 hours a day to ensure providing uninterrupted electricity distribution service, continue their activities in challenging field conditions where the snow thickness reaches 1 metre.

Mehmet Kayacı, Distribution Director at Toroslar EDAŞ, stated:

“Due to strong winds and heavy snowfall, we experience in our service area since last week, there have been several breakdowns in our electricity distribution grid, particularly in Mersin and Adana, due to ice load and tree falling. Due to sleeting and winds, icy coating that form on the conductors caused the conductors to break and the poles to fall because of conductors getting heavier. On the other hand, trees fell due to not bearing the weight of the snow on them, causing damage to the electricity grid. While preparing the grid, which could be vulnerable to disasters by their nature, for winter throughout the year, we invested in 430 million TL for new investments and 60 million TL for maintenance works in Mersin and Adana. We carried out maintenance activities for the entire grid, both in the urban and in the rural side, throughout the year.”

  • Shifts tripled; 40 generators provided

Kayacı stated that as part of disaster preparedness plans, all the materials that would be needed in the field were procured and stored throughout the year, and remarked, “Currently, we tripled the number of employees and vehicles than the usual shift order in Mersin and Adana, and are responding to breakdowns in the field with 316 vehicles and 1349 employees. 40 generators were transported to locations where electricity is required, and most of them were put into use to serve our customers. Considering occupational health and safety of our employees as well as the safety of lives and properties of our customers, we conduct our operations swiftly. Throughout this period, we continue to work in coordination with all our stakeholders in the public institutions and the private sector.”
