Toroslar EDAŞ speeds up the temporary problem-solving issues 23-fold

  • With the SCADA technology, Toroslar EDAŞ can remotely fix the temporary breakdowns in electricity distribution lines due to contacting a tree branch or wind effect and that do not require any physical work much faster.
  • Toroslar EDAŞ will invest an additional 80 million TL in 2022 to further expand the aforementioned technology, which reduces the average 46-minute response time to 2 minutes.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım AŞ (Toroslar EDAŞ), the leader of the electricity distribution industry, began using SCADA system that reduces the average 46-minute temporary problem resolving time to 2 minutes with remote intervention, thus enables faster response periods of 23-fold, in 60 percent of the power failure and supply operations.

Completing the tender periods for an additional investment of 80 million TL to expand the system in 2022, Toroslar EDAŞ will expand the SCADA system and minimise the duration of power failures.

Toroslar EDAŞ completed the tender periods for the activation of 333 SCADA centres (60,000 I/O), in addition to 564 SCADA centres (120,000 Input/Output (I/O)) in the existing SCADA system at high voltage level. The construction works will be initiated this year.

Furthermore, Toroslar EDAŞ will include 1032 SCADA centres (80,000 I/O) in the SCADA system in addition to 786 SCADA centres (60,000 I/O), such as distribution transformers and measurement cabins with breakers in close proximity to the end users; and will also activate the system at 2,000 overhead transformers (60,000 I/O).

  • How the system works

The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system enables electricity supply to be re-established remotely in a shorter period of time with computer-aided systems.

In cases that are defined as temporary breakdowns in electricity distribution lines due to contacting a tree branch or wind effect and that do not require any physical work much faster, energy can also be quickly re-activated remotely.

Moreover, in the event of forest fires or floods that endanger life, where energy deactivation is required, energy can be deactivated remotely in a much shorter period of time. Furthermore, electricity grid data can be monitored via the SCADA system and measures can be taken according to changing conditions.

Toroslar EDAŞ, one of the three Enerjisa Distribution Companies in electricity distribution together with Başkent EDAŞ and Ayedaş, hit the top of the list by investing the highest amount among the 21 distribution companies in Turkey between 2016 and 2020.
