Toroslar EDAŞ activated the disaster communication system in the earthquake region

Communication and coordination of the repair teams, who were equipped with on-board radios installed on hundreds of vehicles via 3 mobile towers and the communication station mounted at higher locations and powered by solar energy, were enabled. The number of employees working in the field was increased to 2073, while the number of generators to 1716.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Toroslar EDAŞ) activated the Disaster Communication System, a first in the industry, to overcome the mobile telecommunication problem experienced in the earthquake region, so that repair teams can communicate effectively while working.

The system, which was developed by Anadolu Yakası Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Ayedaş) for the earthquake expected to occur in Istanbul, was dispatched from Istanbul to the earthquake region just after the earthquakes because of the ongoing telecommunication difficulty experienced in Kahramanmaraş as well as some other cities.

Thanks to the system, the repair teams, who were equipped with on-board radios installed on hundreds of vehicles via 3 mobile towers and the communication station mounted at higher locations, maintained communication and acted in coordination with the disaster management center of the company and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Center (SCADA).

The system can meet its electricity requirement by utilizing solar energy where it is activated. Thus, the system does not require to be connected to the grid or to be supported by a generator.

The number of employees working in the field increased to 2073.

In total, 2073 electricity distribution personnel of Toroslar EDAŞ are currently working to supply the energy required in the regions affected by the earthquake.

In addition to the employees of Toroslar EDAŞ, as well as Başkent EDAŞ and Ayedaş, three distribution companies of Enerjisa, employees of contractor companies and other distribution companies arrived in the region; and, while the number of employees in the field was around 350 on the first day, the number reached to 1011 and then 2073 on the third and fifth days, respectively.

Teams in the region were driving/operating 141 basket-platform boom vehicles, 229 pick-up vehicles, 48 cranes, 34 trailer trucks, 19 bucket excavators, 60 trucks, and 392 passenger vehicles.

1716 generators in use

Furthermore, the number of generators used by search and rescue teams, to re-energize hospitals, and for floodlights close to ruins, and street lighting is increasing day by day.

In this regard, 1716 generators are in use in the region, 129 of which are large mobile generators transported by trucks or trailer trucks and 1587 of which are mobile generators of various sizes.

When the relevant locations are re-energized by the grid, these generators are transported to other locations. These generators are refueled by our employees from the fuel tanks provided by our company.

On the other hand, although the repair works have already been completed, some areas could not be supplied electricity to avoid any safety risks. Hence, re-energizing operations in these research and rescue activities are carried out in line with the coordination established with the relevant public institutions.
